Singing Quodilbets

Although I have been participating in community singing for many years now, I’m still amazed at what you can learn.  At Newstead Vocal Nosh last Sunday, we sang “Quodilbets” – which means singing different melodies at the same time that sound good together. Such as “When the Saints go marching in” and “Swing low, sweet chariot”.  Great fun and I now have another"q" word for Scrabble.

Community singing at Vocal Nosh Newstead - what a lovely soup supperAnne and myself travelled with friends to Newstead Vocal Nosh last Sunday, March 5.  Fay White lead a wonderful night of singing. There was two themes for the night - songs about labour (honoring our Labour Day) and women (International Women's Day).  Fay told us the wonderful history and stories of the songs we sang - like the Wonthaggi Mine Whistle Song by Joe Chambers, which is based on the notes of the whistle that marked the start and ends of shifts.
